Across all formats, the fast and aggressive bowler managed to take 237 wickets in 154 matches. Hence, he officially slammed the doors for himself in international cricket after his 15-year career for his country.
According to ESPN Cricinfo, Due to a lack of selection in the team, Wahab couldn’t participate in green shirts for the last two years, which may have led to Wahab Riaz retirement.
Note that the Pakistan star was also trolled on Twitter in July when he was inspecting the rainwater that fell on the road. Following this video on social platforms and news channels, some said he was copying PM Shehbaz Sharif by wearing shoes of the same height. Others criticized saying that it’s not his duty to keep an eye on things outside of sports, but he should focus on his assigned duties only.
Not only this, but Wahab Riaz also shared a video in which he drove at high speed in the rain, throwing mud on people.
Such a move was highly criticized by the people of Pakistan. People not only criticized this action but also named this scene a “drama.”
Undoubtedly, Wahab Riaz emotional statements during the retirement announcement clarify that he was not happy at all.
Therefore, a couple of factors, such as being hated, criticized, and not given a chance for the last two years in the team, may have contributed to Wahab Riaz retirement.
Pakistan Cricket Board acknowledged Wahab’s services to the country and featured a photo of him with his bowling stats in the blog. Also, PCB posted a farewell Tweet and thanked the fast bowler for his unforgettable 15 years of service.
