On Wednesday, June 28, 2023, Salwan Momika, who is said to be an Iraqi refugee living in Sweden, is seen committing an Anti-Muslim Prejudice act by burning the Holy Quran in front of the public.
It is said that Salwan submitted a petition to the court to burn the Qur’an so he is free from being arrested on charges of committing such an act. Later, the state-sanctioned the freedom of speech and action against Islam, which resulted in outrage in the Muslim community.

An activist dared to desecrate a copy of the holy Quran by burning it, showing his expression of disapproval towards Islam, in front of Stockholm’s mosque. Meanwhile, security was standing to rescue the burner in case any inevitable happened.
In a video, a 37-year-old Irani refugee can be seen in a blue shirt raising his hand and holding a copy of the Quran, demonstrating the practicing of the Quran burning to the public.
The Irani refugee, living in Sweden, showed no respect towards Islam and its followers and continued to desecrate the holy book.
The Muslim community find the viral video very despicable and loathsome and not only raised their voice on social platforms but also through protests.
Also, the Muslim community struggles a lot with utilizing different platforms to prevent blasphemy or any other act that hurts them.
Along with many other popular Muslim leaders, Tayyip Erdogan and Imran Khan are also seen as consistently sending their messages to the world to respect their emotions and stop burning the Quran and other such actions.
Along with other countries, Pakistan (Nuclear Power of Muslim Ummah) also condemn vehemently and profusely the incident that happened in Sweden.
On Friday, on the call of former Prime Minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan, the people of Pakistan showed solidarity and took to the streets in various cities.
Anti-Muslim Prejudice and Momika’s Quran burning reason
According to the Free Press Journal, the activist wanted to highlight the importance of freedom of speech. The journal also stated, the demonstrater quoted in reports said:
“This is democracy. It is in danger if they tell us we can’t do this.”
According to the International Media Reports, Salwan Momika wrote:
“I want to protest in front of the large mosque in Stockholm, and I want to express my opinion about the Quran. I will tear up and burn it.”
Also, it is said that he plans to burn another Quran soon. However, over the years, a couple of Quran burners have been found to have expressed their distaste for the religion of Islam and want it banned.
On the other hand, Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, visits Russia’s Muslim Majority Republic of Dagestan. He accepts the Quran as a gift on the occasion of Eid-Ul-Adha or Feast of Sacrifice and said:
“This is holy for Muslims. And for all others, too, it is important and it is holy. We know that other countries do things differently. They don’t respect people’s religious feelings and they even say it’s not a crime (referring to the incident that happened more recently).”
“In our country, it’s a crime. According to both the Constitution and Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation,” he added.
“We will always adhere to the legal regulations,” he continued.
At last, the President expressed his gratitude and appreciated the gift.
