When is NYC Pride 2023 March? On Sunday, June 25, 2023, Members of the LGBTQ+ community flocked to Manhattan in a massive crowd.
All the attendees, including the community allies and assigned officials, marched from Fifth Avenue through Greenwich Village, passing by the historic Stonewall Inn.
Despite the rain, it is estimated that around 1 million people participated in lining the streets of Manhattan to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall uprising.
What is the role of Stonewall Inn in the NYC Pride 2023 March?
The Stonewall Inn was a series of sudden and violent protests by members of the gay community against a police raid in the early morning. From June 28 to July 3, 1969, it began inside the Stonewall Inn at 51-53 Christopher Street. It was spread outside across the street and subsequently led to several surrounding streets. The event was credited as a turning point for the LGBT rights movement.
Therefore, members of the LGBTQ+ community believe that without the Stonewall riots, the community would not have been able to grow as large as it is today.
Many people joined the parade for the first time and looked very excited about being in the march to consolidate the community.

Some attendees also broadcasted their interviews amidst NYC Pride 2023 March on Sunday to share their thoughts.
Justin Rowe, who attended the pride march with his husband, said:
“More recently with the legislation against trans people and drag queens, this is really an important year for everybody to come out and show support.”
Members of the LGBTQ+ community firmly stated they will continue to stand together in the face of oppression and discrimination and to provide a safe quota to those whose rights are under attack.
In the interviews with the news channels, many of them openly spoke and disclosed their identity, saying that they are not letting anyone suppress them for being who they are.
During NYC Pride 2023 March, they are seen raising their voice in support of members of their community.
“As a lesbian, I feel like gay people should be able to walk the streets without getting hurt,” said Parker Tiburcio, an attendee during NYC Pride 2023 Parade.
According to the NY1, To mark Pride, Gov. Kathy Hochul signed a new legislation Sunday, protecting access to gender-affirming care in New York, and urges other states to do the same.
It is noted that according to Human Rights Campaign, more than 20 states have passed bans on gender-affirming care for transgender youth since 2021. Whereas, it is estimated that 130k teens and trans children live in those states.
